Ishmael is in his senior year, working hard on his classes as an English Literature major. Over the past few years he has been involved in the Columbia Political Union, and even wrote for the student paper, ¡°the Spectator¡±, for a couple of years. His favorite author is Philip Roth, a famous Jewish-American author, with ¡°Portnoy¡¯s Complaint¡± being Ishmael¡¯s favorite work by Roth. His favorite class is American Renaissance, in which he studies American Literature during a period when people with renewed national self-confidence, started to develop unique styles of writing. He also writes his own novel in his Fiction Writing class. He says that when his imagination gets stuck, he just keeps writing whatever¡¯s on his mind and keeps revising it until he finds the idea or expression that he likes.
