Amatias is studying so-called ¡°course 2¡±, that is Mechanical Engineering, at MIT. He lives on campus in a dorm. Of the courses that he is taking this semester, his favorite is referred to as 275, or Precision Machine Design class. In that class doctors from nearby hospitals tell students about the problems they have with their instruments. The students then figure out the defects with the instruments in terms of performance, and design new ones that work better.
